Do you know what are food cravings? How can you differentiate it from hunger? Do food cravings help you in reducing body fat?
You may hear someone say that he is craving for pizza and he wants it so badly. Or you may also catch your own self in the exact situation of that person, trying so hard to resist the temptation of buying something even though you have just eaten your meal. I have been there, too, a lot of times already particularly when I am sad or extremely happy. As of today, I am working towards my goal — to lose weight naturally and have that dream vital statistics.
But wait, I want to go back to my first question. What are food cravings by the way? How can you really tell that what you feel is just a craving and you are not even hungry at all? What causes people to crave for food? I know you have been dying to know how to deal with this, most especially when you want to control your weight. So how can you possibly prevent yourself from this?
More present in women than in men, a food craving is an enticing urge to eat particular kinds of food at certain times. This craving is not actually an eating disorder yet it is caused by imbalances of hormone in the body. It was said that women have a tendency to crave out of depression yet men have food cravings when they want to celebrate. Most common examples of these foods being craved are candy, pizza and other sweet snacks. If you are on a low-calorie diet or all you eat are foods to lose belly fat, you can easily be distracted by a craving for a food which is high in sugar or fat.
However, doctors, nutritionists and dietitians agreed that food cravings are not only because of hormonal imbalance. In general, cravings are caused by a complex mixture of hormonal, biochemical and emotional factors. Most of these food cravings are mainly triggered by the imbalance in the blood sugar, though hormonal and emotional are also among the factors.
Low blood sugar, or blood glucose, normally happens because of lack of food resulting from longer time interval between meals or from diets with very low calories. Some studies reported that people who are into diets frequently have a blood sugar imbalance such that too much fluctuation in the blood sugar levels occur for the reason that they are consuming too much of the wrong carbohydrate type. These fluctuations lead to food cravings, extreme thirst, sudden exchanges of mood, and water retention.
On the other hand, emotional factors, or psychological, leading to food cravings are depression, boredom, stress and a need for comfort. We often heard of people having comfort foods such as ice cream, cake or chocolates and they usually crave for these to make them feel comforted, maybe out of sad happenings in their lives.
These cravings though they are not eating disorders, as mentioned above, should be avoided. In one way or another, food cravings will lead to nutrition imbalance, overweight and obesity. There are three ways to fight and control these cravings.
First, submit yourself to your food cravings but practice limiting your self. Try for just few bites just to satisfy your desire. Next, replace that unhealthy food with a nutritious one. Chocolates can be exchanged with sweet fruits or juices. Last, divert yourself from these foods. You can go for exercising or any activity that will turn away your focus.
So there it goes. It takes a lot of courage, patience and determination if you really want to achieve something. You have to prevent yourself from something bad for the better. After all, the results are rewarding and for sure, you can have a healthy weight loss.
